In a nutshell...

Media literacy refers to the ability to identify, interpret, and analyze information that may be presented in a variety of formats. It can refer to both digital and printed material. Due to the sheer amount of information and content available in the digital landscape, this skill is essential to be able to critically analyze information and content.
